Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 87
Roumier’s 1988 Bonnes Mares exhibits a stunning bouquet of leather, dried herbs, licorice, cherries, minerals, and smoke. However, in the mouth, it is hard, astringent, and unfriendly. Anyone suggesting this wine will improve and fatten needs to see a nose, throat, and palate specialist. And to think I thought this would be profound stuff after a decade of aging … shame on me! As Henri Jayer told me in 1984, “If it tastes too tannic, it is too tannic!”

Lovely round perfumed nose and just a bit tough on the palate. Solid. Chewy but much better with food than without. Follows right through the palate. Very powerful.
