Showing a touch of oxidation, but still thoroughly enjoyable, full-bodied and textured, the 1991 Hermitage la Chapelle has lots of olive and darker fruits, as well as that mature la Chapelle bouquet of chocolate, soy and roasted meats. Big, fleshy and textured on the palate, I love it for its richness and it still has plenty of sweet tannin. I wouldn’t push the aging curve here and see no reason to delay gratification, especially with the subtle kiss of oxidation. Nevertheless, this outstanding Hermitage offers plenty of character.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2020

Dark red. Port-like aromas of chocolate, prune, and earth, plus a whiff of V8. Then sweet and gamey in the mouth, with very good density and surprisingly firm acids. Finishes with suave tannins and subtle, lingering, spicy flavor. Seemed to grow fresher in the glass and benefit from aeration.

Storage
The Tilbury warehouse of London City Bond is our chosen warehouse. Our storage charges are £12 per 9 litre case (and £6 for anything 4.5l or under), ex VAT per annum.
Insurance is 0.15% of the value and a minimum of £15 p/a (full replacement cover).
