Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 95
Not quite as breathtaking as the bottle poured last year, but still an exceptional wine. An ethereal nose of roasted herbs, saddle-leather, fig and even a touch of anis creeping in, although you feel that this bouquet has barely started its ascent. Wonderful definition. The palate is like last time, understated at first but unfurling beautifully with time in the glass. A tangible sense of controlled power with a diving lingering finish that is just a tad more viscous than I remember. Leave this puppy alone for another 2-3 years. Drink 2010-2040. Tasted June 2008.
Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040
Vinous 91-93
(part of this cuvee was bottled in 2000) Medium red. Highly aromatic nose combines roasted red fruits, leather, lead pencil and minerals; distinctly port-like surmaturite Like a liqueur in the mouth, but with intense spiciness giving the wine an assertive personality and terrific lift. A wine with noble rusticity, finishing with the rather strong tannins of this vintage. Needs to be bottled soon.
