Vinous 92
The 1998 La Fleur de Gay was picked from September 22nd. It has a reticent nose that takes time to unfurl. Dark berry, boysenberry and tertiary aromas develop in the glass. It is refined and elegant but a tease at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and good mineralite, though tightly coiled toward the tannic finish. Mineral-rich dark berry fruit tones mingle with raspberry, pastille and limestone notes. This is long-term. Tasted June 2011. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.

Robert Parker 90
This elegant, dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 exhibits aromas of lead pencil, blackberries, black raspberries, licorice, and vanillin. Deep, rich, and full-bodied, with excellent ripeness, beautiful symmetry as well as harmony, and moderate tannin in the finish, it will be at its best between 2002-2016.
