Robert Parker 93
A tad disappointing wine for 2000 when I tasted it out of barrel, although I questioned just how representative my bottle was. Not much when a brilliant sample was served in November 2004 at the MW horizontal. Still the nose is closed, with faint aromas of black cherry and smoke, but the palate is superb balance with layers of blackcurrant laced with tobacco. A very sturdy wine, perhaps foursquare and conservative. A bit austere on the finish, but I believe this vin de garde will blossom after a decade of cellaring. Drink from 2008 to 2015. Tasted November 2004.
Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015
