Bright medium red, with little sign of amber. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, cinnamon, mocha, leather and earth, with complicating ferrous notes of iron and tobacco. Wonderfully silky and fine-grained, showing lovely class and lift to its red fruit and spice flavors. Not a powerhouse but remarkably suave and smooth for Pommard. Really rises and lingers on the highly aromatic finish. Still on an upswing. [Stephen Tanzer, 02/01/2016]

The 2002 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux does not quite match the previous vintage. It has a stern, earthy, tobacco-scented bouquet with touches of small dark cherries and potpourri, followed by a scent of iodine. The palate is sweet on the entry with well-judged acidity and comes across as quite feminine, a trait more evident in subsequent vintages. It feels natural and concludes with a delicate touch of spice that lingers in the mouth. This is very fine. Drink now-2018+. This tasting was organized by UK importer Howard Ripley Ltd.
