Tasting Notes

I was never a great fan of Arnoux’s Burgundy wines and the 2002 Echézeaux reminded me of my antipathy. I find the nose a little hot and bretty, almost Rhône like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, perhaps too sweet with ripe black plum and blueberry, segueing into a spicy, rather heavy-handed finish. It’s just not my style. Tasted blind at Philippe’s Xmas lunch.

Cask sample. Sweet, earthy, and farmyardy. Quite lively, fun, and racy. Great texture.

Ginger snaps, spices, and rich dark fruits can be discerned in the nose of the elegant, medium to full-bodied 2002 Echezeaux. Broad, beautifully ample, as well as offering an exceptional juxtaposition of refinement and power, this gem slathers the palate with layers of spicy, peppery red and black fruits. This deep and wonderfully concentrated wine should be enjoyed between 2007 and 2017.
