Very dark, purplish crimson. Slightly gamey nose. Sweet and overripe notes. Lack of freshness. A bit heavy and then lots of oak on the finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020

Tasted blind at Farr Vintner’s Left Bank tasting. The Ferriere is a Margaux that appears to have improved dramatically in recent years. It has a violet-tinged blackberry and raspberry on the nose, with touches of mocha and espresso off-stage. The palate is medium-bodied, a little chewy on the ripe entry and nicely balanced. Not a complex Margaux, but focused towards the finish with blackberry, tar and cranberry intermingling long after the wine has exited. This is a pleasant surprise. Tasted October 2010.
