Tasting Notes
Vinous 93
Crushed black cherries come together with olive, rosemary, burnt orange and dusty rose as the 2006 Mille e Una Notte comes to life in the glass. The wine is beautifully mature, with seamlessly silken textures and soothingly ripe red and black fruits guided by fresh acidity. The 2006 still holds onto its tannic grip, leaving an herbal resonance as graphite and sour citrus taper off. In the warm 2006 vintage, Donnafugata dropped about 50% of their fruit through green harvest. This is also a different blend from modern-day vintages, mixing only Nero d’Avola and Syrah.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2034
Robert Parker 93
The 2006 Mille e Una Notte boasts incredible concentration and richness in its super-ripe blueberries, blackberry jam, graphite, minerals, cassis and licorice. This is decidedly more voluptuous and opulent than the Tancredi, and the richness of the fruit helps to balance the tannins to a greater extent. Smoke, tar and new leather add complexity to the round, creamy finish. The exotic 2006 Mille e Una Notte is a terrific effort from Donnafugata. 2006 Mille e Una Notte is predominantly Nero d’Avola. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. This is a beautiful set of wines from Donnafugata, one of Sicily’s leading producers. Importer: Folio Fine Wine Partners, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 256-2700
