The 2007 La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the great successes of a vintage given the cold shoulder by consumers on initial release. It has an ebullient bouquet of vivid dark berry, warm gravel and undergrowth scents that are complex and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity, a precise structure and superb tension on the finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2040
Deepish garnet with a ruby red rim. Much more meaty and savoury than the Cheval Blanc but also with some lively red fruit on the nose. Still showing a delicate cedary aroma. Tannins are compact and chalky but it finishes rather suddenly, as if the tannins stop the wine’s progress across the palate, but there’s a surprising amount of fruit in the middle. (JH)
