Robert Parker 96
Still youthful smelling, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina offers floral, garrigue-like aromas, plus layers of ripe red cherries. It’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with hints of blood orange and citrus zest on the long, velvety finish. It clearly still has a decade or more ahead of it.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2030
Glass-staining purple. Aromas and flavors of candied blueberry, boysenberry and licorice, with a sexy floral quality gaining power with air. Broad and extremely deep, with a velvety texture and mounting spiciness. Utterly seamless Chateauneuf with excellent finishing power and a lingering note of smoky minerality.
