Tasting Notes
Vinous 91-94
The 2014 Les Astéries emerges from a parcel on chalk adjacent to Le Carré and is completely different in style. Beams of salinity and acidity give the wine much of its energy. Violets, lavender, smoke, tar, licorice and plums are all racy and exquisite in the glass. The 2014 is opulent yet retains gorgeous nuance for such a big wine. The blend is 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc.
Robert Parker 91
The 2014 Les Asteries has retained those complex aromatics that I remarked upon during primeur. Now in bottle, it offers red and black fruit: kirsch, cranberry jus, incense and potpourri aromas that are nicely defined, perhaps a little more opulent compared directly against the 2014 Le Carré. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and strawberry interlaced with orange rind and a light tang of Seville orange marmalade, finishing with a marine-influenced, quite lightly finish.
