Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 93
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals bombastic blackberry pie and blueberry compote notes with underlying cassis, dried herbs and unsmoked cigars scents plus a waft of pencil shavings. Full-bodied and jam-packed with black fruits and earthy layers, it has a solid, grainy frame and a long finish with a lively herbal lift. 6,576 cases produced.

The 2016 Insignia is fabulous. Dark and powerful in the glass, the 2016 pulses with a sense of vibrancy that is impossible to miss. Even with all of its energy, the 2016 is understated and nuanced, especially next to the vintages that surround it. Today, the 2016 is a bit less expressive than it has been in the past, and yet all of the elements are in place for it to develop into an exquisite wine.

84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Franc. The 2016 Napa Valley growing season began with a mild winter resulting in early budbreak for some blocks at the beginning of March. A normal period of bloom and veraison took place in early May and mid July, respectively. The 2016 growing season was cooler than the previous three vintages. A very deep purple colour in the glass. Ripe but not overblown on the nose, all damson, blackberry and baked vanilla. The palate is powerful but balanced, bright acidity and grippy tannins tempering the glossy black fruit. Expansive, heady and rich, this is a blockbuster that warrants bottle age. (TP)
