Tasting Notes
Vinous 92
The 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is laden with more new oak on the nose compared to its peers, and, as such, it doesn’t possess the same delineation and terroir expression. There is some reduction and Brettanomyces at play here. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, but is a little chewy and rustic. There is a very slight but nagging vegetal edge on the finish that just detracts from the overall harmony, though that may resolve with time. It looks as if it has been overtaken by their Latricieres-Chambertin. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Less than 50% new oak. Barrel sample. Mid smudgy crimson. Smells ripe and sweet and sweetly oaky. Rounded, mildly chewy tannins. Great fruit and well structured by both the tannins and the acidity but I am not sure it is at the level of grand cru. (JH)
