Why Sell To Us

Whether you are realising an investment, slimming a drinking cellar or settling an estate, we will give you a straight answer on what your wine is worth and the fastest, cleanest way to turn it into cash.

No layers of staff. No drawn-out auction cycles. No surprises on the invoice.

Founder-led, since 1999

John Morgan has spent almost fifty years in the fine wine trade. You speak to the people who value, list and pay for your wine. No account managers, no committee.

A small team, by design

No tasting rooms, no marketing department, no HR function. That overhead is what loads cost into a big merchant’s margin. We pass the saving back to you.

Agile and responsive

Most enquiries answered the same day. Most valuations back within forty-eight hours. If a wine needs to move quickly, it can.

Honest valuations

No flattering numbers to win the consignment then quietly listing lower. The price we tell you is the price we would actually transact at.

A real international network

We export to over thirty countries and are a founding member of Liv-ex, the global fine wine exchange. Your wine reaches buyers, not just a UK shop window.

No-nonsense pricing

Free valuation. No listing fee. No storage charge while we sell for you, provided the wine sits at our preferred bond. No charge if you decide not to proceed.

How It Works

  1. Send us a list. A spreadsheet, photos of the bottles or cases, an old purchase invoice, anything that tells us what you have. Email sales@morganclassics.com or call +44 (0)1273 487000.
  2. We value it. Usually inside two working days. We will tell you what we would buy it for outright, what we would list it at on broking, and an honest view on whether anything is better held than sold.
  3. You choose: cash or broking. Whichever suits your timeline and tax position.
  4. We arrange collection or bond transfer. If your wine is already in bond, it moves on the warehouse system in a day or two. For broking, in-bond wine can stay where it is until sold, no up-front transfer needed, particularly straightforward at LCB, our preferred bond. If it is at home, we book a collection.
  5. Payment. For outright purchases, funds are with you once the wines have arrived at our warehouse and have been checked. For broking sales, we settle end of month following the date of sale.

Cash Or Broking

Outright Cash Purchase

You receive: An agreed price, paid immediately
Speed: Days
Risk: None, price is fixed and paid
Best for: Estates, divorce, deadlines, simple parcels
Storage costs: None
Hidden fees: None

Broking

You receive: 90% of our list price (85% on cases under £500)
Speed: Weeks to months
Risk: Sale price is firm once we list
Best for: Patient sellers chasing the strongest net return
Storage costs: Free at our preferred bond while listed
Hidden fees: None

Many clients do both: a portion sold outright for immediate funds, the rest on broking to chase the upside.

Situations We Handle Regularly

  • Realising a wine investment portfolio
  • Refining a collection so the better wines have room to grow
  • Reducing an oversized drinking cellar
  • Inheritance and probate
  • Divorce settlements and court orders
  • Corporate gifts that are not to your taste
  • Cellars that have outgrown the house move

We have handled single bottles and we have handled seven-figure cellars. The process is the same.

In Bond Or Duty Paid

We deal in both. If your wine is in bond at LCB, Octavian, EHD, Vinotheque or any other major UK warehouse, we know the system and can move it without you lifting a finger.

If you are putting wine on broking and it is already in bond, it does not need to be transferred to us up-front. It can stay where it is until sold, with LCB the most straightforward, saving you a transfer cost and admin in the meantime.

If it is stored at home, we will arrange a collection and a condition check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Outright purchases can settle on the day of collection or in-bond transfer (if the condition has been checked). Broking settlements are made end of month following the date of sale.

No. Valuation is free and carries no obligation to sell.

We will arrange collection and check condition on arrival. The valuation reflects whether the wine is duty paid or in bond. For large cellars, John or Alick may inspect the wines in-situ before collection.

Yes, provided it is the right wine. We have bought parcels of one case and parcels of two hundred. There is no minimum on the buying side.

We will tell you honestly. Some wines we will not take on, and we will say so rather than waste your time. We can usually point you to who would.

We benchmark against current UK and global trade offers and also recent auction hammer prices, then position to sell. You see the price before we list.

Fine wine is not a regulated investment in the UK. What we are is a long-established, VAT-registered UK wine merchant, founding members of the Liv-ex fine wine exchange, with thousands of completed transactions and a track record you can verify.
